August Among the Hydrangeas in Dobropark

More than 3,000 hydrangea bushes, a 400-meter-long “flower river,” summer mixed borders, and fields of blooms – this is what Dobropark looks like in August. During this time, the park enters hydrangea season, when familiar spots change colors and summer arrangements reveal themselves in a whole new light. August is the perfect time to experience this part of Dobropark’s floral year and combine a stroll among the plants with a summer getaway in the park.

Dobropark’s hydrangea collection comprises 11 varieties and is displayed at two separate locations. The most recognizable of these is a “flower river” about 400 meters long, which has already become one of the park’s signature summer attractions. The second hydrangea display is located near the fairy-tale maze, seamlessly complementing the landscape of this part of the park.

Among the varieties you can see at Dobropark are Polar Bear, Vanilla Fraise, Fraise Melba, Sweet Summer, Kyushu, Sundae Fraise, Magical Andes, Framboisine (Rensam), Strawberry Blossom, Colourful Cocktail, and Pink & Rose. A stroll through the park offers the chance to see mature plants already established in the landscape and to imagine how a particular variety might look in your own garden. And if you’d like to bring any of them home to your own garden, plants from Dobropark’s collection can be ordered from the Dobroplant nursery.

Hydrangeas aren’t the only thing that defines the park’s August look. During this time, the mixed borders, the petunia field, the perovskia, and other perennials continue to bloom. The mixed borders combine different plant species, selected for their color, shape, and flowering periods, so that the areas remain visually striking throughout the season.

Swimming Pool Complex

You can combine a stroll among the flowers with some relaxation at Dobropark’s pool complex. Guests have access to two heated pools, an area with lounge chairs and umbrellas, a bar, changing rooms, and showers. One of the advantages of this type of outing is that the price of admission to the pool complex already includes access to the park grounds, so you can combine a visit to the pool with a stroll through the park’s flower-filled areas all in one day. The pool complex is open daily, and tickets are currently available only at Dobropark’s ticket offices.

Another family-friendly spot this August is Dobrodvir, a petting zoo with farm animals. Here, you can see alpacas, goats, and other animals, feed them, and get up close and personal with them. This experience will be especially interesting for children, who will have the chance to explore the animal world in person, rather than through a screen.

Perennial grasses

A key event in August for the horticulture and landscaping industry will be a hands-on seminar taking place at Dobropark on August 11. Nursery owners, landscape designers, landscapers, architects, representatives of garden centers, and anyone who works professionally with ornamental plants are invited to attend. The program includes a tour of Dobropark led by its founder, Igor Dobrutsky; an introduction to the production facilities and greenhouse complex; practical lectures; and a visit to the in vitro laboratory, where plant material is propagated under controlled laboratory conditions.
